Mark your calendar for the Opening Session, Interest Sessions, Exhibits, Awards Banquet, and Concluding Breakfast scheduled at the Bancorp South Arena and Conference Center. Join the fun at the Industry and Member Appreciation Event to be held Friday evening at the Conference Center.

Exhibits will feature an array of food products, equipment, supplies, software, and many other items. The items the Vendor wants to “highlight” will be at each booth and the information will be on a Product Survey Form. Directors and Buyers will be able to sample the product and recommend or not recommend the product to the State Purchasing Committee.

The Opening Session and Interest Sessions will motivate you to improve your skills and knowledge. You will also have opportunities to network with other members and don’t forget about the contests for managers and staff.

Whew! Where did the summer go? We are almost a month into the school year and I hope everyone had a smooth start. I am very excited about serving as your President for the coming year. I would like to give thanks to former President Becky Courville for leading this association with such pride and dignity, a job well done.

There are going to be some challenges presented to us, some old and some will be new. It was reported for the seventh straight year, that Mississippi remains the fattest state in the U.S. The good news is the state’s obesity rate fell for the first time in recent decades. This can be attributed to “The Healthy Student Act.” We must remain focused on the vision that we have for the children of this state.

As you know, “The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act” is now a part of our history that will help shape our children’s future. For the first time, we have a President and First Lady that are leading the efforts on combating childhood obesity with their “Let’s Move” campaign and challenging us as Child Nutrition Leaders to take the “Healthier Us School Challenge.” Many of you have already made that challenge a priority with the rest of us stepping up to join in the ranks. We applaud your hard work and dedication that you have achieved for the children in this state. After all, the most precious commodity is at risk, our children. We realize that we are on the front line, as society and the media have placed us there. We will do what we have always done, which is to persevere. This association will continue to stand strong and assist members in any way necessary for them to succeed.

When you think about this year’s theme “Child Nutrition A…GreatLink2life,” it reminds us that this task has been placed on every Child Nutrition Professional to ensure that each child receives a well balanced and nutritious diet. It has been proven by developing children’s eating habits while they are young is a major component for a long healthy life.

The Steering Committee is in the midst of planning a fun filled conference for all of you. Please make plans to attend the 42nd Annual Conference November 4th-6th in the River City. What a great way to begin with Friday Night’s Industry Party! Saturday starts with General Session, Exhibits, Interest Sessions and Awards Banquet Saturday Night. The finale is Sunday morning’s breakfast and inspiration. This conference will not be complete without you. I look forward to seeing you there. Refund Policy: Request for registration refund for any conference/seminar sponsored by MSNA should be made in writing to the registration committee chairman and postmarked on or before the printed deadline date. Cancellations received on or before the printed deadline date of October 11, 2010, will entitle the registrant to full refund less an administrative fee of $25.00. Cancellations received after the printed deadline date and on or before the ten days prior to the conference beginning date will entitle the registrant to a 50% refund. There will be no refunds for cancellations after ten days prior to the conference beginning date deadline. Refunds for special circumstances, i.e., death, or illness, will be considered by the Executive Committee. Appropriate documentation will be required. No refunds will be made for no-shows.
I request that you accept me as participant at the Ms School Nutrition Association conference to be held in Biloxi, MS November 4-7, 2010. I understand there is some risk inherent in traveling to and from as a result of attending the conference. The undersigned hereby releases MSNA and the committees, members, and officers as well as other participants and other persons who may take part in said conference from all liability for injury, death, and property damages that may be suffered in connection with such activities whether due to negligence or otherwise, accepting such risks involved in waiving all right of any kind that might otherwise arise. The undersigned agrees to indemnify MSNA, its committees, members and officers against the cost of defense of such claims including reasonable attorney’s fees.
