Committees & Advisory Boards: Professional Development

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
(Awards, Certification, and Scholarships)

Recommendations shall be submitted by the Regional Director to the President Elect for appointments.

AWARDS:

1. Shall be responsible for the Louise Sublette Award. This includes:

A. Promoting and selecting process.
B. Coordinating with the Executive Secretary the purchasing of state plaques or certificates, requesting banquet ticket and $50.00 awards to be presented at the MSNA Annual Conference.
C. Remind members of dates for MSNA entries. The letter of intent is sent to the State President by December 1 of each year and the due date for the application is March 1 of each year.

2. Shall be responsible for the SNA Marlene Gunn Outstanding Director of the Year Award. This includes:

A. Promoting and providing information to all Regional Directors for dissemination to local chapters.
B. Remind MSNA members to submit entries to State President for judging.
C. Coordinate with the Executive Secretary the purchasing of a plaque or a certificate to be presented at MSNA conference.
D. Mississippi’s award will be named “The Marlene Gunn Director of the Year” award.
E. The due date for the application to be sent to the State President is March 1 of each year.

3. Shall be responsible for the Outstanding School Award. This includes:

A. Providing promotional information to all Regional Directors for dissemination to local chapters.
B. Coordinating with the Executive Secretary the purchasing of plaques, employee pins, and $50.00 award to be presented to each regional winner at the MSNA conference.
C. Each regional director may appoint a committee to judge Outstanding School entries and forward each regional winner to the State Professional Development chairman.
D. Outstanding School entries are due September 15 of each year to the Regional Directors and October 1 to Professional Development Chairman.

4. Shall be responsible for the MSNA School Lunch Bell Award. This includes:

A. Promoting and providing information to all Regional Directors for dissemination to local chapters.

B. Shall appoint a selection committee to judge entries and select winners.
C. Coordinate with the Executive Secretary the purchase of plaque and cash award to be presented at the MSNA conference.
D. Shall receive all entries for judging.
E. First, second and third place awards and plaques will be presented in the following categories:

• Individual Schools: High School, Middle School, Elementary School Entire School District
• The first place winner in each category will receive a $50.00 award.

F. School Lunch Bell entries are due September 15 to Regional Directors and October 1 to Professional Development Chairman.

5. Shall be responsible for all MSNA/lndustry scholarships. This includes:

A. Soliciting industry sponsors.
B. Distributing applications to each Regional Professional Development and Awards chairman.
C. Requesting banquet tickets for Industry sponsors.
D. Writing letters of appreciation to Industry sponsors.
E. Approving payment after receipt of proof of registration.
F. Coordinating judging of entries with the Steering Committee Scholarship chairman.
G. Coordinating with the Executive Secretary the purchasing of plaques or certificates, and pins to be presented at the MSNA conference.

6. Shall be responsible for promoting SNA Scholarships and Awards. This includes:

A. Distribute applications to Regional Directors for dissemination to local chapter members.
B. Provide application for inclusion in Magnolia Petals
C. MSNA Scholarship applications are due October 1 to the Professional Development Chairman.

7. Shall be responsible for keeping the Executive Board updated on scholarships and awards. This includes:

A. Providing information and applications at Leadership Conference.
B. Reporting to the Executive Board at scheduled meetings.
C. Sending memos when necessary to Regional Directors and Regional Professional Development Chairman as reminders of deadlines.

8. Professional Development Chairman shall serve on the Steering Committee as Awards Chairman.

9. Shall be responsible for other awards as directed by Executive Board.

10. Shall be responsible for promoting SNA certification for MSNA members.
